SensationALL believe that to optimise the learning, communication and potential of their users all their services should integrate sound, safe sensory experiences. We all perform better, understand more effectively and are more emotionally stable when we are experiencing positive communication and a non-challenging environment. Although sometimes hampered by the restraints and constrictions of the current venue, SensationALL staff always try to keep their sensory aware attitude and approach core to their involvement.

Services

SensationALL groups can be accessed by individuals and groups. Days and times of these groups vary according to demand and our teams other service commitments. (check our calendar for current running groups). Organisations like local support groups, schools and small groups of families (sometimes using their Disability Living Allowance or Self Directed Support payments) have bought access to our facilitated/staff led groups. Previous groups/organisations have included Woodlands & Mile End Schools, SPARKs, Meldrum Early Years, FunHouse, Butterfly ForRest support groups, PAMIS, Aberdeen Play Forum, Hazlewood Holiday Playscheme and VSA Under 8’s Playscheme.
Our subsidised services and groups are run by a few very experienced part-time staff & many volunteers. This results in most of them being run in several week cycles. See the timetable or news page for our current and forthcoming groups. Please get in touch if you would be interested in any of the below groups or activities, many of them are run on a Needs basis and we require enough numbers of interested people before we can run them.

These sessions are run on a Sunday afternoon (completely on volunteer hours) and are open to the whole family. SensationALL create a small soft play area and make both this and the sensory room available for up to four families each hour. Experienced staff are on hand to demonstrate the sensory room or facilitate activities, but parents/carers are present and responsible throughout. Pre-School Groups (various term time sessions & programmes for under 5's)

Small groups are made up with parents or carers and pre-school children with various or suspected MSN needs interested in semi-structured play sessions and time to chat with other families. The sessions are usually run during the school term for 8 week blocks with days and times organised around user needs (currently Tuesdays). Often families attend who do not yet have a confirmed diagnosis for their child or are early in ‘the system’. The group is facilitated by experienced SensationALL staff and promotes an open, supportive environment between families. There is a strong focus on promoting child development and learning using fun games, movement, songs, sensory resources and activities. Young siblings and extended family are also welcome. Our Pre-School Groups are split into two types to accommodate for different abilities and levels of stimulation.

Sing, Move, Play & Learn is a semi-structured specialist group aimed at supporting families and engaging children through play, music, movement & sensory activities. This group is aimed at youngsters with complex needs, early in their development who benefit from slow paced activities and a low-stimulating environment. Dates of this group can obtained on request as they are run in blocks throughout the year inn conjunction with Sense Scotland Early Years.

Parent Support Pre-School are semi-structured specialist groups aimed at supporting families and engaging children through play, music, movement & sensory activities. There are 2 groups; a Tuesday morning session aimed at youngsters who require a quiet session and the afternoon is aimed at more active, mobile youngsters able to tolerate a lively session of action songs & play. Siblings welcome.

£5 a session per child.

Early Communication Group (Let’s Interact or Let’s Talk)

The 8 week sessions help parents/carers learn to support and encourage the development of early communication skills. The sessions include group instruction, time to practice newly learned skills with individual coaching and feedback from the Speech &Language Therapist, and an opportunity to ask questions. Class will include professional instruction, fun activities for the children, and the opportunity to meet with and learn from other families. We aim to provide the knowledge, skills, and confidence that parents/carers need to support communication abilities of children with multiple support needs.

The well renowned Hanen ‘More Than Words’ programme for parents of young children with autism is also planned  in the future – please get in touch if you are interested.

£40 per programme.

Open to youngsters with MSNs & their families.
